I am so excited to bring you guys Elements Truffles! This company was started by a previous trader on Wall Street that decided to blend her love of chocolate with the food science of Ayurveda. I am so in love with the clean ingredients of these chocolates as well as the company’s big focus on philanthropy and sustainability. 25% of profits go to supporting education for underprivileged children in the tribal areas of India and each member of the team invests at least five hours every week giving back to the community. Not only that but they are extremely environmentally conscious from their sourcing to their packaging.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a food science based on the belief that our body is made up of five elements- Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether. (Did anyone else just think of Thor?) It is a mode of traditional healing that dates back to the Vedic culture from India, thousands of years old.
In Ayurveda there are three doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. The vata is regulates the principle of movement, including any bodily motion like breathing, and is composed of air and space. The pitta is the principle of transformation and is composed of fire and water. Some examples it oversees are digestion and metabolism. The third dosha is kapha, which is composed of earth and water. The kapha is the principle of stability and structure, such as the body’s skeleton and organs. Each Elements Truffles chocolate helps to balance one, two, or all three doshas.
Banyan Botanicals has a pretty cool quiz you can take to determine your constitution and how to manage it. My constitution was Vata-Pitta, 40% vata, 32% pitta, and 28% kapha.
“We make fine chocolates that are kind to body, mind, taste buds and environment.”
